Static Major, born Stephen Ellis Garrett on November 11, 1974, was an influential American singer-songwriter and record producer, best known for his work in the R&B and hip-hop genres. He gained prominence as a member of the group Playa, which was associated with the late 1990s and early 2000s R&B scene. The group is particularly noted for their hit "Cheers 2 U," which showcased their smooth harmonies and innovative production. Static Major's significant impact on music is largely attributed to his songwriting and production contributions. He co-wrote and provided vocals for several prominent tracks, including "Lollipop" by Lil Wayne, which became a massive hit in 2008, showcasing his ability to blend R&B with hip-hop elements. His distinctive vocal style and creative influence helped shape the sound of contemporary R&B. Tragically, Static Major passed away on February 25, 2008, at the age of 33.
